Hindustani Vocal by Keerthi Kumar Badseshi
 

Poorvi Sangeeth Academy of Malleswaram had organised a Hindustani Classical Vocal concert by renowned Hindustani Vocalist Sri.Keerti Kumar Badseshi on Saturday, 6th April 2013,  at B.P. Indian Public School, 4th Main Malleswaram Bangalore. 

Before the commencement of concert, the Academy launched its web site, viz., - www.poorvisangeethacademy.com

Sri.Keerti Kumarji appropriately chose to begin the concert with Raag Poovi, as a compliment to the Academy's name. He displayed tremendous control over the Raag and exhibited his ability to effortlessly move between and play around saptaks in the badaa khyaal, ”Piya Sanawa” set to vilambit ektaal and followed by a drut khyal ‘ Ariye Maika Saba sukha deeno, set to Teentaal.

The next song was the playful Bandish in Raag Durga "Manmohan Jaa" which brought the Holi scene before the listener's eyes followed by a Tarana.

Sri. Keerti Kumarji next presented two Ram Bhajans of Tulsidas  in raag Sohini and Mishra Pilu, keeping in mind the forthcoming Sri Ramnavami, which set a devotional mood.

The concert concluded with a Kannada Purandaradasa Devaranaama in Raag Bhairavi.

Sri Jagadish Kurthkoti on Tabla and Sri Ashwin Walawalakar on Harmonium gave a tremendous support to Sri Keerti Kumarji. He was also assisted on tanpura and vocal support by his students, Sri. Gurunath Joshi and Ms. Mihika Bolangady.

In all, the well attended concert enthralled the music lovers, who enjoyed a full two-hour musical treat by Shri.Keerti Kumarji.

POORVI SANGEETH ACADEMY’S STUDENTS’ FIRST MUSIC PROGRAM -

“Students of POORVI SANGEETH ACADEMY got their first opportunity to sing at a public function at RAVINDRA KALAKSHETHRA, BANGALORE on the occasion of 5th anniversary of SRISAPTHAKA SANGEETHA ACADEMY, Bangalore.

The participants were Kum. Tejaswini, Adithi Kashyap, Rajani, Smt.Alka, Vandana, Pramitha, Anuradha, Prathiba Nandan, and Sri. Archishman, Prashanth.

They sang two (2) janapada geethe, viz., (a) Gallu Gallenutha gejje gallu sajenutha, and (b) Uduru uduru mallige chadaru namma kerige, under the guidance of Sri. Hiremagaluru Pradeep.

All the participants sang extremely well in spite of getting the invitation at a very short notice. The audience appreciated the performance.

Lets hope for many more such programs in the future for the students of Poorvi Sangeeth Academy.”

REPORT OF MUSIC WORKSHOP CONDUCTED BY LAYAKALA PRATIBHAMANI VID. TIRUMALE SRINIVAS FROM 16th TO 22nd JUNE 2013 AT POORVI SANGEETH ACADEMY CLASS ROOM

Poorvi Sangeeth Academy of Malleswaram had organised a Workshop on Haridasa Krithis from 16th to 22nd June 2013, at Poorvi Sangeeth Academy, Malleswaram, Bangalore.

The workshop commenced on Sunday, 16th of June 2013 and was very well attended by interested singers who have had a basic training in Karnatic classical music.

The workshop was held every day for 90 mins, during which Tirumale Srinivas taught very rare Dasara krithis. The krithis were as follows :

1. Avare kai beku – by Guru Rama Vittala in Raga Bhimpalas set to adi tala
2. Shivana nodiro – by Vijayadasaru in Raga Hindustani Basant set to adi tala.
3. Dayamadamma dayamadamma – by Kamalanabha in Raga Chandrakauns set to adi tala.
4. Bhajare hanumantam – by Kanakadasa in Raga Hindustani kaapi, set to adi tala.
5. Somashekara taane balla sri – by Vyasarajaru in Raga Bahudari set to adi tala.
6. Govinda hari govinda – by Ramadasaru in Raga Govinda narayani set to adi tala.
7. Varade karunya sharade – by Jagannatha dasa in Raga Naata, set to adi tala.
8. Baro hrudaya sadana – by Indiresha in Raga Anjanavati, set to adi tala.
9. Aava kulavo ranga – by Vadiraja in Raga Vasanthi set to mishra chaapu tala.
10. Hari neene gati yendu – by Purandaradasa in Raga karnaranjani set to adi tala.
11. Yentha mahima yentha cheluvane – by Amba bai in Raga Vasantha set to adi tala.
12. Palise amba – by Narasimha Vittala in Raga Nagaswaravali set to adi tala.
13. Dayamadi pidi yenna – by Bhoopathi vittala in Raga Vasanthi set to adi tala.
14. Parama dayakarane – by Sri hanumesha vittala in Raga Kharaharapriya set to adi tala.

On the concluding day, ie Saturday 22nd of June 2013, the participants gave a group presentation of around 8 krithis learnt during the course of the workshop and received appreciation from the audience present during the occasion.

Some of the participants gave their feedback and opinion stating that the workshop has helped them and Poorvi Sangeeth Academy should conduct many more workshops in the future.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks, and high tea. All of them left with a very good feeling after congratulating the Academy trustees for having organized such a wonderful workshop.

REPORT OF KARNATIC CLASSICAL VOCAL CONCERT ON SAT.13TH JULY 2013 AT B.P.INDIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL, 4th MAIN ROAD, MALLESWARAM, BANGALORE

Poorvi Sangeeth Academy of Malleswaram had organised a Karnatic Classical Vocal concert by renowned Karnatic Vocalist Kalabushana Vidwan S. Shankar on Saturday, 13th July 2013, at B.P. Indian Public School, 4th Main Malleswaram Bangalore.

Dr. B R Padmanabha Rao, the president of the Academy welcomed the gathering and introduced the Artist of the day to the audience. The Vidwans were honoured with bouquets by the Trustees Kedar Diwakar, Narayana Murthy and Pratibha Nandan.

Sri B K Anantha Ram, V.P of the Academy welcomed the Chief guest Sri Sharma, the renowned educationist & Chairman of Education Institution- Sri Vidya Kendra, Magadi Road, Bengalooru to the gathering. Sri Sharma spoke to the audience and congratulated the Academy for organizing such good music performances by reputed artists.

Vid.S Shankar who commenced his concert chose a varna – Sarasudha in raga Saveri set to Adi tala.

The next song was a krithi Sri Mahganapathim Bhavaye in raga AndOLika set to Adi tala, followed by a Devaranama of Kanakadasa- Bhajisi Badukelo Maanava in raga Shankarabharana set to khanda chaapu tala with a neraval & Swara prastaara at garuda sheshadri.

The next item was Thyagaraja krithi ‘Yoga Vaibhavam’ in raga Ananda Bhairavi set to roopaka tala. His next presentation was the popular ‘ Brovabarama’ in raga Bahudari set to Adi tala.

The next song was ‘Raghunaayaka’ in Raga Kamavardhini set to Adi tala. His next presentation was the popular ‘Shrungapuradishwari’ in raga Kalyani set to Adi tala, composed by Sri. Padmacharan (late Vidwan A.V.Krishnamachar- Violinist & Composer) He concluded the evening’s performance with the famous devarnama ‘Tamboori meetidava’ in raga Sindhu bhairavi set to adi tala.

Vidushi Charulatha Ramanujam on Violin, Vidwan Cheluvaraj on Mridanga, and Vidwan Guru Prasanna on Khanjira gave a tremendous support to Vid Shankar.

Sri B K Anantharam proposed the vote of thanks and also mentioned about the Academy’s next plan to celebrate its first anniversary on December 1st, 2013 wherein a day long music program will be organized by involving nearly 40 artists in Karnatic, Hindustani and Sugam Sangeeth disciplines.

He also mentioned about the Music classes in Karnatic & Hindustani classical vocal, Sugam Sangeeth, keyboard and other instruments that are taking place at Poorvi Sangeeth Academy’s class room every evening and weekends. Guru Poornima celebrations

Vamshi Academy of Music conducted Guru Poornima celebrations on Sunday 21st July 2013 at their New Auditorium in Nelamangala.

The program which lasted for about 5 hours was a musical retreat since many established and popular Karnatic Classical Vocalists sang about 2 krithis each. The program was given a bright start with a few krithis by Poorvi Sangeeth Academy, wherein a few workshop-students, who had participated in theworkshop on rare dasa krithis conducted by Sri Tirumale srinivas, gave a presentation of the dasa krithis which was enjoyed by everyone.

The program concluded with a sumptuous lunch provided to all the participants and the local audience assembled there.

Sri B K Anantharam, founder trustee of Vamshi Academy of Music, and also the Vice President of Poorvi Sangeeth Academy, gave a good opportunity to the participants. This has given a good beginning to the group.

Sri Krishna Janmashtami Celebrations

The Ancient Sri Venugopalaswamy temple situated on the 11th cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore, had organized a music festival as usual during the Gokulashtami 2013.

A few trustees of Poorvi Sangeeth Academy, viz.-Dr. B R Padmanabha rao, Sri Hiremagaluru Pradeep, Sri Shiva Padmanabhan, Vidushi Rekha Prasad, and Smt. Pratibha Nandan sang devotional krithis for nearly 2 hours on the gokulashtami day, 29th aug 2013, in the temple premised on the erected stage.

Many devotees and music lovers enjoyed the songs sung with devotion by the singers. A report was also published by Cityplus on 4th sep issue.

8) 23 to 27 Oct - 2013
Abhang workshop

Surmani Dattatreya L Velankar conducted ABHANG workshop from 23rd to 27th Oct 2013 at POORVI SANGEETH ACADEMY, Malleswaram.

The workshop was very well attended and appreciated by all. He chose 12 Marathi Abhangs of various Saints like Sant Gnaneswar, Sant Tukaram, Soyira Bai, Ramdas, Bahina bai, Jana bai (disciple of Sant Namdev), Damaj pant etc.

The participants were very receptive and picked up the abhangs very well, and all of them sang in unison on the concluding day. Dattatreya Velankar too sang a few bhajans and abhangs later on the concluding day which everybody enjoyed thoroughly.

The participants were all given a audio CD sung by Velankar, containing the abhangs they learnt in the workshop. A certificate was also given to all the participants. Prasad was distributed to all in the end.

On the whole members left the premises with a great feeling and asking for more of such workshops in the future.

The Students of Poorvi Sangeeth Academy performed on Sunday 17th Nov 2013 to celebrate Kannada Rajyothsava. They rendered kannada patriotic group songs, followed by Bhavageethe songs by Hiremagaluru Pradeep, Pratibha Nandan and Rekha Prasad.

REPORT OF 1st ANNIVERSARY HELD ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1st 2013
@ SRI KRISHNADEVA RAYA KALA MANDIRA, TIRUMALA VIDYA NIKETAN, BEHIND CHOWDAIAH MEMORIAL HALL, VYALIKAVAL, BANGALORE.
 

Poorvi Sangeeth Academy celebrated its first anniversary recently on Sunday, 1st December 2013. This academy was inaugurated last year in November 2012. It has been organizing music concerts in Karnatic & Hindustani Classical and Sugam Sangeeth. Music workshops have also been organized. Regular Music classes are being conducted daily.

The first anniversary function was a day-long event with various music concerts starting from 9AM and lasting 70mins each .  The concerts was as follows :

  1. Vidwan Sridhar Sagar and his troupe gave a fabulous beginning with a melodious Saxophone performance. He was accompanied by Venkatesh Joshier on Violin, B.Ramanath on Mrudanga and B. Bhaskar on Tanvil.
     
  2. Surmani Dattatreya L Velankar gave a very brilliant Hindustani Classical vocal performance. He was accompanied by Udayaraj Karpoor on Tabla and Madhushan Bhat on Harmonium. Velankar had recently conducted the Abhang workshop in October 2013 for the Academy.
     
  3. The inauguration by the formal lighting of the Lamp took place later, by the renowned Sugam Sangeeth Singer and composer, Sri S Somasundaram and the renowned poet of Dharwad, Sri Narasimha Paranjpe, along with the office bearers. An audio CD produced by Hiremagaluru Pradeep was also released on this occasion. This CD contains Kannada bhaavageethe penned by Narasimha Paranjpe with the tunes and music composed by Hiremagaluru Pradeep. Various singers like Rameshchandra, Ganesh Desai, Hiremagaluru Pradeep, Rekha Prasad, Prathiba Nandan and others have rendered their voice for these songs.
     
  4. Immediately after the inauguration, popular Sugam Sangeeth singers like Vijay Havanur, Yeshwanth Halibandi, Indu Vishwanath, Ganesh Desai, Ravindra Soragavi, Prabha Inamdar and Geetha Sathyamurthy sang popular numbers.
     
  5. After the Lunch break Sugam Sangeeth schools - Indu gaana dhaara, Samarasa sangeetha shaale, Gaana sudha, Poorvi Sangeeth Academy, Saptha swara sangeetha vidyalaya rendered chorus songs.

    V Punyesh Kumar on Keyboard, B R Prakash on Tabla, Venaktesh Sagar on Rhythm pads, Ramesh and Kalyan on Flute gave a tremendous support to the artists for the sugam sangeeth.
     
  6. Later Poorvi Sangeeth Academy students gave a performance on Karnatic Classical Vocal and Hindustani Classical Vocal. Even though it has been just 6 to 7 months since the classes have started by the Academy, the students gave a wonderful performance which was appreciated well by the audience.
     
  7. This was followed by a very illustrious and melodious Hindustani Classical Vocal performance by Pt. Shivanand Heroor. He was accompanied by Narasimha Nayak on Harmonium and Bhavani Shankar on Tabla.
     
  8. The Valedictory and Poorvi Puraskar Award Function took place immediately wherein dignitaries like Dr. G K Veeresh, Vidwan R N Thyagarajan and Dr. Vid R N Tharanathan, and Narasimha Paranjpe took part and spoke on the occasion. Rudrapatnam brothers (Thyagarajan and Tharanathan) and Narasimha Paranjpe were honoured with Poorvi Puraskar 2013 in recognition of their service to Karnatic Classical and Sugam sangeeth. The other guest who could not make it due to unavoidable circumstances were, Dr. C N Ashwathnarayan, MLA, Dr M Suryaprasad, Art Critic and Pt. Ravindra Katoti-renonwed Hindustani Harmonium artist. A souvenir was released during this occasion.
     
  9. After a short break for coffee, Vidwan B K Anantharam and his troupe gave a very enjoyable Venu-Veena-Violin concert with a good understanding. He was accompanied by J K Sridhar on Violin, V Gopal on Veena, B R Srinivas on Mrudanga, Ramesh on Ghata and Bhagyalakshmi M Krishna on Morsing.
     
  10. The final concert for which everyone was eagerly looking forward started immediately afterwards, ie Bhakthi Sangeeth by the most popular singer of Karnataka – Dr. Vidwan Vidyabhushana. The auditorium was packed till the end. His each song was received well by the audience.
    The program concluded at 9:15PM with a vote of thanks delivered by Vidwan B K Anantharam.

People left the venue with a good feeling and congratulating the Academy for organizing such a wonderful music treat.

REPORT OF KARNATIC CLASSICAL VOCAL CONCERT ON SAT.8TH MARCH 2014 AT ADARSHA BHAVANA, 15th CROSS MALLESWARAM, BANGALORE


Vid. Rudrapattanam N Thyagarajan & Vid Dr. Rudrapattanam N Taranathan and their troupe rendering Karnatic Classical Vocal Concert.

Poorvi Sangeeth Academy of Malleswaram had organised a Karnatic Classical Vocal concert by renowned Karnatic Dual Vocalists Vid. R.N. Thyagarajan and Dr. R N Taranathan, popularly known as RUDRAPATTANAM BROTHERS, on Saturday, 8th March 2014, at ADARSHA BHAVAN, 15th Cross, Malleswaram Bangalore.

Dr. B R Padmanabha Rao, the president of the Academy welcomed the gathering and introduced the Artists, Vidwan R N Thyagarajan and Dr. R N Taranathan, popularly known as Rudrapattanam Brothers, to the audience. He later welcomed the Chief Guest of the day, Sri. Markandapuram Srinivas (Retd. Director, Kannada & Culture, Karnataka). The Vidwans and the Chief Guest were honoured with bouquets.

Vid. R N Thyagarajan had conducted a Workshop for 5 days during Feb-March 2014, on Karnatic Light Classical Compositions like Jaavali, Taranga etc., wherein around 24 members had registered and learnt about 6 such songs from the teacher. These participants gave a group presentation on the same day prior to the concert, in the presence of the teacher and the audience, and received appreciation for the efforts put in both by the teacher and the students. All the participants were honoured with a Certificate and a Audio CD of the songs for their reference and further practice.

The Chief Guest, Sri Markandapuram Srinivas spoke to the audience wherein he spoke about the ancient literatures of Kumara Vyasa, Ranna, Pampa and later on brought the connectivity to the present Vachana and Daasa sahitya (literature), and highlighted the Karnatic Classical Music for upkeeping such literatures through the Music. He further went on to appreciate the efforts of many Music Organizations for organizing such programs, with a word not to forget the tireless efforts put in by Poorvi Sangeeth Academy in this direction, and wished all success to the Academy in the coming years.

Rudrapattanam Brothers commenced their concert with a varna Chalamela in Natakuranji ranga set to Aditala. It was followed by a Krithi of Harikesha nallooru Muttaiah Bhagavathar Siddhivinayakam in Mohana Kalyani raga set to adi taala. They then presented a Thyagaraja Krithi Manassu nilpa in Abhogi raga set to adi taala.

The next composition was a Taranga by Narayana teertha Bhaavaye sakhi in Salavi gangaala raga set to adi taala. The next krithi was by Muthuswamy Dikshitar Vishalaaksheem Kashi Ramakriya in Kamavardhini raga set to Mishra chaapu taala. They concluded their evening concert with a Jaavali by Patnam subrahmanya Iyer Mariyaada teliyakane in Suruti Raaga set to Roopaka taala.

The audience appreciated all the krithis very much. They were ably supported on the Violin by Vidushi Nalina Mohan, on Mridangam by Vid. V S Rajagopal, and on khanjari by Vid. R Karthik.

Sri B K Anantharam, Vice president of the Academy proposed the vote of thanks.
