01. Karnatic Classical Vocal Concert by Vid. Seetha Satyanarayana on Sunday 10th June 2018.

Poorvi Sangeth Academy recently organized the Quarterly Music program comprising of a Karnatic Classical Vocal Music concert on Sunday 10th June 2018 at BHUMIKA HALL, M.E.W.S, 17th cross, Between 4th & 6th Main, Malleswaram, Bangalore-55.

The event commenced sharply at 6PM with a welcome by Sri M K Krishna. This followed with a formal welcome by Vid. B K Anantharam, the Vice-President of the Academy, who gave a brief introduction of the Main Artists of the evening, The other artists for the evening, viz. Vid. M S Govindaswamy on Violin,  and Vid. M Gururaj on Mridanga were also introduced to the auidence.  All the artists on the dais were honoured with a bouquet.

The event commenced immediately thereafter by Vid. Seetha Satyanarayana who presented the following krithis :

  1. ‘Sarasuda’ – Varna composed by Venkataram Iyer  in raga saveri set to aditala.
  2. ‘Sri Mahaganapathe’ of Mayooram Vishwanatha shastry in naata raga set to aditala.
  3. ‘Nammamma Sharade’ of Kanakadasa in Tilang raga set to Adi tala.
  4. ‘Srimannarayana’ of Annamacharya in raga bowli set to Adi tala.
  5. ‘Nee dayarada’ of Saint Thyagaraja in raga Natabhairavi set to roopaka tala.
  6. ‘Bantureeti kolu’ of Tyagaraja in raga Hamsanada set to Adi tala.
  7. ‘Deva Deva’ of Swati Tirunal in Raga Mayamalavagowla set to Roopaka tala.
  8. ‘Karedare barabarade’ of Kamalesha Vittala in Raga Svarasomodini set to Adi tala.
  9. ‘Marugelara’ of Tyagaraja in Raga Jayantashri set to Adi tala.
  10. ‘Ninne nammiti’ of Vasudevachar in Raga Simhendru madhyama set to Mishra chhapu tala.
  11. ‘Gedyo Hanumantha’ of Purandaradasa in Raga Brindavana saranga set to Adi tala.
  12. ‘Alli nodalu rama’ of Purandaradasa in Raga Shivaranjani set to Adi tala.
  13. ‘Karunalu neenallave’ of Ballari Seshagiri achar in raga Ranjani set to Adi tala.
  14. ‘Kavadaiva’ of Purandaradasa in Raga Hamsanandi set to Adi tala.
  15. ‘Kureyendrumillai’ of Rajaji in Ragamalike set to Adi tala.
  16. Mangala.

She was equally very well supported by Vid. M S Govindaswamy on Violin,  and Vid. M Gururaj on Mridanga.

Sri. Hiremagaluru Pradeep proposed the vote of thanks.

The curtains drew after a wonderful presentation which kept the audience tapping to the lilting tunes and lyrics. The program was well attended inspite of rain threats. The audience enjoyed the music and the whole event thoroughly and dispersed to their homes with a promise to return for the next forthcoming activities of the Academy.

 
02.Karnatic Classical Vocal by Vid. Tirumale Srinivas (Chaami) on Sun 22nd July 2018.

Poorvi Sangeeth Academy recently organized Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. Mani Krishnaswamy Memorial Concert jointly sponsored by Vid. Rekha Prasad,  comprising of a Karnatic Classical Vocal Music concert by Karnataka Kalashree Vid. Tirumale Srinivas (Chaami),  on Sunday 22nd  July 2018 at BHUMIKA HALL, M.E.W.S, 17th cross, Between 4th & 6th Main, Malleswaram, Bangalore-55.

The event commenced sharply at 6PM with a welcome by Sri M K Krishna. This followed with introduction of artists to the audience by Vid. Rekha Prasad – Trustee, Poorvi Sangeeth Academy.  She mentioned that Dr. Mani Krishnaswamy was her Guru & Mentor when she was staying in Chennai for a brief period. She did mention the greatness of Dr. Mani Krishnaswamy as a great Teacher and Guide who also had many Awards to her credit and also had lead teams to many countries abroad.  All the artists on the dais were honoured with a bouquet.

The event commenced immediately thereafter by Vid. Tirumale Srinivas who presented the following krithis :

  1. ‘Varna’ composed by Mysore Sadashiva Rao in Raga kamavardhini set to Adi tala.
  2. ‘Gajamukha vandisuve’, composed by Vadiraja in Raga Revathi set to Adi tala.
  3. ‘Neevane gaana’ – composed by Sri Tyagaraja in Raga Saranga set to Khanda chhapu tala.
  4. ‘Mama hrudaye’ – composed by Vasudevacharya in raga Reethigowla set to Khanda jaathi triputa taala.
  5. ‘Nambide Ambujakshane’ – composed by Helavane katte Giriyamma in Raga Behaag set to Roopaka taala.
  6. ‘Saarasadala nayana’ – composed by Muthu swamy Dikshithar in Raga Kamaach set to Chaturashra jampe taala.
  7. ‘Gopavemba Kokila – composed by Saint Purandaradasa in Raga Brindavani set to Adi tala.
  8. ‘Yenu punyava maadi’ – composed by VaravaNi Rama Rao in Raga Vasanthi set to Mishra chhapu taala.
  9. ‘Hari neene gathi yendu’ – composed by Saint Purandara dasa in Raga Karnaranjani set to Adi tala.
  10. Tillana composed by Vid. Tirumale Srinivas in Raga Amruthavarshini set to Adi tala.

He was equally very well supported by Vid. H M Smitha on Violin,  Vid. B S Prashanth on Mridanga, and Vid. Gopi Shravan on Morching.

03. Music Workshop on Sanskrit Patriotic songs & Kar Vocal concert by Vid. S Shankar on Sunday 12th Aug 2018

Poorvi Sangeth Academy recently organized a Music workshop on Patriotic songs in Sanskrit composed by Mayuram Viswanath Sastry, conducted by Sangeetha Rathna  Vid. S Shankar from 5th to 11th Aug 2018 in Poorvi premises, followed by conclusion  on Sunday 12th  Aug 2018 at BHUMIKA HALL, M.E.W.S, 17th cross, Between 4th & 6th Main, Malleswaram, Bangalore-55.

The event commenced sharply at 5.30PM with a welcome by Sri M K Krishna. This followed with a brief note about the workshop by Vid S Shankar, immediately after which the workshop participants sang in group the following six songs, viz.,

  1. Jayathi Jayathi Bharatamata in Kamaach Raga set to roopaka tala.
  2. Bharata janani in  Shankarabharana Raga set to Aditala.
  3. Veeradhwajam in Bilahari Raga set to Aditala.
  4. Sujanim in Shankarabharana Raga set to Aditala.
  5. Manuja kulabharanam in Peelu Raga set to Aditala.
  6. Mangalam bhavatu te in Hameer Kalyani Raga set to Roopaka Tala.

All the participants sang well in unison and were later given a certificate and a Audio CD of these songs.

 

Then a audio-visual (AV) presentation was made showing a life sketch of Mayuram Viswanatha Sastry which was well received by the audience.

 

Dr. B R Padmanabha Rao (President of the Academy) welcomed all and introduced the artists-  Sangeetha Kalarathna Vid. S Shankar and his troupe,  who were also honoured with a bouquet. Immediately thereafter the concert by them.

 

Vid. Shankar who was also accompanied by his son Vid. S Ramani on vocal sang very well. They presented the following krithis and songs :

All compositions of Mayuram Viswanatha Sastry:

  1. ‘Ninne nammi’ – Varna in Reethi gowla raga set to aditala.
  2. ‘Sri Mahaganapathe’ in Ragamalika set to aditala.
  3. ‘Matsada’ in Abhogi raga set to roopaka tala.
  4. ‘Pashupathi’ in Mohana kalyani raga set to chaturashya matya tala.
  5. ‘Ayyane’ in kambodi raga set to aditala.
  6. ‘Chintayasaayi’ in Abheri raga set to aditala.
  7. ‘Saaayinam’ in jonpuri raga set to mishra chhapu tala.
  8. ‘Manave mantralaya’ composed by Padmacharana in Shuddasaranga raga set to aditala.
  9. ‘Shanta ahimsa moorte’ composed by Mayuram Viswanatha Sastry in Sindhubhairavi raga set to aditala.

 

All the krithis were very neatly presented with total perfection by both the vidwans. They were very well supported by Vid. Achuta Rao on Violin, Vid. B R Srinivas on Mridanga, Vid. Karthik Bhat on Tabla and Vid. Srinidhi on Khanjari.

04. Jagadodharana 4, at Doddamalooru  on Sunday 28th Oct 2018

Poorvi Sangeth Academy in association with Jai Sri Krishna Charitable Trust of Doddamalooru, recently organized the 4th Jagadodharana Music event on Purandaradasa,  on Sunday 28th Oct 2018 at Doddamalooru, Channapattana.

After a sumptuous breakfast, the event commenced sharply at 9.00AM with a procession by all the artists and well wishers carrying Purandaradasa photo and singing the famous Pillari geethes and other krithis of Purandaradasa.

With a pooja & arathi to the Purandaradasa idol and photo, the Music event started off in the Shamiana erected for the purpose in front of the temple on the stage by lighting the lamp by dignitaries.  Sri M K Krishna, as usual welcomed the artists and the gathering.

The Music program went off as follows by various artists :

  1. Around four Students of Vamshi Academy of Music Trust, rendered two krithis of Purandaradasa on the flute to commence the program which was received well by the audience.
  2. This was followed by a very melodious Violin duet by Vid. Venkatesh Joshier and Vid. M D Arjun which was enjoyed thoroughly by all.
  1. The next event was a vocal presentation by Vid. Rajashree Joshier on Purandaradas krithis.
  1. Immediately thereafter, students of Poorvi gave the presentation as follows :
  1. Six (6) Karnatic vocal students rendered two melodious purandaradasa devaranamas trained by their guru Vid Rekha Prasad.
  2. Again, Six (6) students of Sugama Sangeetha rendered two vocal devaranamas of purandara trained by their guru Vid. Hiremagaluru Pradeep.
  3. Seven (7) students of Karnatic violin played two krithis very melodiously trained by their guru Vid. S Shashidhar.
  1. Thereafter, Vid. S Shankar who was the star attraction of the whole event, and for whose event all were eagerly waiting to listen, were given a very good treat with nearly around 6-7 purandara krithis along with his students.
  1. Next to perform were the Trustees of Poorvi Academy, starting with Dr. B R Padmanabha Rao (President), Vid. Rekha Prasad (Trustee), & Vid. Rekha Harinath (Faculty). All gave a wonderful vocal performance of Purandara krithis.
  1. Immediately thereafter Malooru & Channapattana artists gave a melodious krithis & bhajan.

The following artists gave a very scintillating accompaniments to the main artists:

Vid. Venkatesh Joshier & Vid M D Arjun – Violin,

Vid. G S Nagaraj, Vid. Swaminathan, Vid. Gurudutt & Vid. Prasanna – Mridanga & Ghata.

The event concluded again with a mangalarathi to Purandara and with a vote of thanks, thanking all the artists, audience, organisers, Shamiana contractor, Sound System, and last but not the least the Kitchen & cooks who worked tirelessly serving all with sumptuous meals.

One would fail in his duties if we forget the Lord Aprameyaswamy and Navaneeth Krishna, but for whose blessings the function would not have been a success.

The curtains drew with a heavy heart,  which kept the audience tapping to the lilting tunes and lyrics. The program was well attended. The audience enjoyed the music and the whole event thoroughly and dispersed to their homes with a promise to return again next year with more force and vigour to turn out the event in a more grand manner.

05. Poorvi 6th Anniversary - on Sunday 9th Dec 2018.

Poorvi Sangeth Academy recently celebrated its 6th Anniversary on Sunday 9th Dec 2018 at Bhumika Hall, 17th Cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore-55.

After a punctual start at 4:15PM with a melodious Karnatic Flute Concert by Vid. B K Anantharam (Vice President of Poorvi Sangeeth Academy & Mg. Trustee of Vamshi Academy of Music), accompanied by Vid. Venkatesh Joshier on Violin, Vid. G S Nagaraj on Mridagana, and Vid. M Chidananda on Morching. It concluded by 5:15 PM by which time all the guests had arrived.

 

The Sabha program then clicked off with a invocation by students of Poorvi Sangeeth Academy & Gana Sudha Sugama Sangeetha Academy wherein they all sang in unison on Lord Ganesha composed by Da Ra Bendre with the tune composed by Sri S Somasundaram. The music was played on the track. The prayer was rendered neatly without any mistakes and this was applauded by all.

 

The Big Inaugural Lamp was lit by the dignitaries present on the stage.  Thereafter Vid. B K Anantharam welcomed the guests and everybody in the absence of the President of Poorvi, viz., Dr. B R Padmanabha Rao.

 

Sri. Hiremagaluru Pradeep gave a brief note about the activities of the Academy right from the Inauguration in 2012.

 

Thereafter the most expected and highlight of the event was the Chief Guest’s speech by Dr. Mukhya Mantri Chandru which sent the packed audience roaring with laughter due to his witty & humorous speech. He stressed the need for the students to learn the music in the academy from professional teachers and come up in life.

 

The Guest of Honour, Sri. M S Narasimha Murthy again who is known for his comic serials, gave a splendid speech about Music which is very important and relevant especially in today’s stressed life.

 

Thereafter the Puraskar recipient, Karnataka Kalashree Sri S Somasundaram was honoured with Poorvi Puraskar 2018 and citation and a purse of Rs: 15,000/-.  He spoke for a brief while thanking Poorvi Sangeeth Academy for showering this honour to him.

 

The Faculty Members & Office staff of Poorvi were honoured on the occasion with a momento by the Chief guests. The highest scoring students in the Music exams conducted  recently were also honoured with a momento.

 

Sri M K Krishna, the Prog Exec of Poorvi Sangeeth Academy proposed the vote of thanks. The stage was then cleared and made ready for the sugama sangeetha session.

On the whole, the entire event was a great success with audience packed almost till the end of the session,  and dispersed to their homes with a promise to return again next year with more force and vigour to turn out the event in a more grand manner.
